Aotearoa Jazz Collective
Rising stars of the next generation of musicians & Best of Festival winners at the National Youth Jazz Competition.
Handpicked from each corner of the country, The Aotearoa Jazz Collective is a contemporary jazz ensemble featuring five of the most outstanding young jazz musicians and composers in NZ.
Alex Gibson on piano and sax, and Reiss Fatani on sax and vocals, both from Christchurch, join Hunter Davis (Cambridge) on guitar, Lenny Hoskins (Tauranga) on bass, Mason Johnstone on drums (Hamilton).
Performing with their respective school ensembles, the players have all been finalists and winners at the NZ Young Jazzbandit competition in Wellington.
The AJC recently performed at the National Youth Jazz Competition and won Best of Festival (from 90 bands).
Adjudicator Dr Roger Manins, commented they were ‘the best group he had ever heard at the competition’.
AJC will showcase some choice standards, interesting arrangements, and original compositions.
