Rory Stuart (New York)
Described by JazzTimes as "Perhaps THE most innovative straight-ahead jazz guitarist to emerge in years”, we’re thrilled to welcome New York-based guitarist and composer Rory Stuart to CJC.
In addition to his own critically acclaimed groups, Rory has performed with an unusually diverse range artists - from touring with legendary organists such as Brother Jack McDuff and Bill Doggett, to being an early MBASE member of Steve Coleman’s group with Geri Allen and Cassandra Wilson.
He’s performed with everyone from saxophonists Billy Harper, George Garzone, and Charlie Rouse, to guitarist Larry Coryell and vocalist Sheila Jordan, to Robert Glasper and Becca Stevens, who were students of his at the New School in Manhattan.
Performing his original music in Aotearoa for the first time he will be joined by locals Ron Samson (drums) and Alan Brown (organ).
