A new band, of musicians who’ve played together for a long time, just never all at once. A musical identity in search of a name. Hard music that should sound easy.
This is a band of contradictions, bringing together Ben McNicoll, Lance McNicoll, Mostyn Cole, and Steve Cournane.
Ben should need almost no introduction to CJC audiences, as he’s up on stage almost every week, but rarely with a horn in his hands.
He’s been playing with veteran guitarist Lance (his uncle) about as long as he can play, and grew up listening to him play with Beaver, Hattie St John, Mahia Blackmore, Murray McNabb and more, spanning the blues & jazz divide.
Another familiar face, Mostyn is one of the most in-demand bassists in town, able to take on free improvisation, and funk g in equal measure.
Steve Cournane spent years as a mainstay in the improvised scene, with CL Bob among others, before heading to South America where he steeped himself in another musical tradition.
Join this new ensemble, as they bring a grab-bag of their own old and new tunes, some never yet performed, and a few obscure favourites.
