David Berkman (USA)
David Berkman has been an essential part of the New York jazz scene for over 30 years, as a creative and swinging voice on the piano and as a gifted composer and arranger.
For one night only at CJC, he will be joined by friends Roger Manins, Oli Holland and Ron Samsom.
Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, he currently divides his time between teaching in N.Y. and performing with world renowned jazz artists at home and abroad. Berkman has performed extensively with (and/or recorded and/or composed and arranged for) numerous jazz luminaries including: Tom Harrell, Brian Blade, the Vanguard Orchestra, Cecil McBee, Sonny Stitt, Ray Drummond, Dave Douglas, Chris Potter, Chris Cheek, Steve Wilson, Victor Lewis, Billy Hart, Larry Grenadier, Antonio Hart, Donny McCaslin, Dick Oatts, Billy Drewes, Matt Wilson, Nasheet Waits, Shunzo Ohno and Joel Frahm. His 9 recordings as a leader have appeared on numerous “Critic’s Best” lists.
David Berkman is a Professor at the Aaron Copland School of Music, C.U.N.Y. in New York and has published 3 books on jazz with Sher Music Publishing (“The Jazz Musician’s Guide to Creative Practicing”, “The Jazz Singer’s Guidebook”, and the “The Jazz Harmony Book”) which are used in jazz schools worldwide. Berkman’s newest CD of original music “Six of One” features Dayna Stephens, Adam Kolker, Billy Drewes, Kenneth Salters, Chris Lightcap, Tim Armacost and Rogerio Boccato and is on Palmetto Records will be out April 5, 2019.
