Waiheke-based drummer Alain Koetsier completed an Honours degree in music at the New Zealand School of Music under the tutelage of Frank Gibson and has performed around the Auckland Jazz scene for many years, including a tour with Georgie Fame and yearly appearances at the Tauranga Jazz festival.
He has established himself as a hard-swinging sideman with a fiery, polyrhthmic sound, playing on Brian Smith's album Taupo (2007) and most recently on Phil Broadhurst's Delayed Reaction (finalist for 'Jazz Album of the Year' in the 2012 Tui Music Awards) and Nathan Haines' upcoming album The Poet's Embrace. In his first concert as a leader, he presents a concert of New Zealand original music from each of the band members and some of this country's finest composers. The band will feature Dixon Nacey, Olli Holland and - amazingly his first performance at CJC - Pete France.
