Originating from Darwin, James has performed extensively throughout Australiasia, Europe and India. Following a Masters of Music majoring in Jazz – the first granted by an Australian University- he has taught performance, improvisation and composition at the Canberra School of Music (A.N.U.), The Queensland Conservatorium of Music (Griffith University) and the Queensland University of Technology.
James Ryan’s fascination with improvisation and original jazz composition is reflected in his recordings and live performances. He has released 4 CDs and is about to release 'Live In Mumbai' with Scott Tinkler, Steve Hunter and Ken Edie.
